RetroPATH 2026 Workshop

Welcome Note

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to invite you to RetroPATH2026, the 35th International Workshop on Retroviral Pathogenesis, which will be held in Nagasaki, Japan, from November 7 to 10, 2026.

Nagasaki University traces its origins to IGAKU DENSYU KAN, the first Western-style medical school in Japan, established in 1857. From its inception, the medical school was shaped by strong academic influences from Netherland and Germany. Nagasaki University represents the longest history of medical education and research in Japan. In this historical context, it is particularly meaningful that RetroPATH 2026 in Japan follows RetroPATH2025 in Germany, reflecting a stream of medical heritage.

Nagasaki University is also proud to count among its alumni Dr. Osamu Shimomura, who was awarded the Novel Prize for the discovery of Green Fluorescence Protein (GFP). Furthermore, Nagasaki University hosts a unique institute dedicated to tropical medicine including infectious diseases, where many scientists studying parasites, bacteria, fungi, and viruses. HIV-1, a member of the retrovirus family, remains pandemic in tropical regions, and is therefore a central target of tropical medicine.

The conference continues its decades-long tradition as a premier forum for retrovirus research, offering an intimate and collegial environment that fosters in-depth discussion and collaboration. The program will offer ample opportunities for personal interaction, whether during sessions, poster presentations or social events.

We invite the submission of abstracts on all aspects of retrovirus research, including retrovirus discovery, phylogeny and evolution, virus-host interactions, endogenous retroviruses, oncogenesis, immunity and vaccines, animal models, as well as new therapies and technologies.

We look forward to welcoming you to Nagasaki in 2026.
